Pride Rock: the huge slab of stone that rises from nowhere. A precipice leads from the cave in which the pride sleeps and gives anyone standing on the platform a rather gorgeous view of the Pride Lands. It towers above every other landmark on the plains and has a rather majestic feel to it. During gatherings and important meetings, the animals of the Pride Lands tend to accumulate around the rock, especially when a royal cub is born.

The plains can vary between miles upon miles of green grass and the feeling of healthiness and new life during the rainy season, and yellowed, dead grass during the season of immense heat and sun. However – the season doesn’t really matter, since the savannah still retains an overall look and feel of majesty and beauty both to the eye and to the body. It is here that the animals are found, from the leaping antelope to the smallest working ant.

The largest baobab tree in the Pride Lands, the Tree of Life stands – quite literally – in the middle of the plains. Home to the royal family’s shaman, the bark of the tree is covered in paintings and stories, as well as timelines of the Great Kings of the Past. Rafiki can often be seen swaying in the branches and making a lot of noise, or consoling with the spirits of Kings.

This is the thriving life and soul of the Pride Lands: the watering hole. At any point during the day, you can find a variety of creatures gathering around the banks, and the water always has a cool appearance to it. During the dry season, it tends to dry up a little, but there’s always enough for the lions to survive on whilst the herds move off.

Enormous bones jut out from the ground; spines criss-crossing over skulls and the rattling of skeletons as the wind passes through them can only define this place as the Elephant Graveyard. It isn’t surprising, seeing as how over a hundred elephant carcasses have ended up here. Home to the notorious, devious and cackling bunch of however-many hyenas are left, it’s a place that cubs are forbidden to visit, and most creatures naturally avoid it.

Scar and his minions once gathered here alongside the roughly-made holes in the ground that spurted out sweltering bursts of steam, and since his downfall and their exile, the grotto has been abandoned. Not a single creature can be seen skulking around the caverns – well, save for the odd hyena and the rare beast that doesn’t associate itself with the Pride Lands.
